Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated every year on 2nd October to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. It is a day to remember his ideals of truth, non-violence, and simplicity. At Udayan Kidz, the occasion was observed with a special focus on young learners.
The little ones participated in a role-play of the Namak Satyagraha (Salt March) and other acts from Gandhi’s life. Additionally, they took part in craft making activities designed for their age group.
About Gandhi Jayanti
Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2nd October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. He led India’s freedom struggle through non-violent means. His principles of Ahimsa (non-violence) and Satyagraha (truth force) inspired movements across the world.
Gandhi Jayanti is observed as a national holiday in India. It is also recognised globally as the International Day of Non-Violence by the United Nations.
Namak Satyagraha: Role-Play by Little Learners
The highlight of the celebration at Udayan Kidz was a role-play of the Namak Satyagraha (Salt March). This historic event took place in 1930 when Mahatma Gandhi led a 240-mile march to the coastal town of Dandi to protest the British salt tax.
How the Little Ones Enacted It
The young students dressed as Gandhi Ji and his followers. They carried small sticks and walked in a line, recreating the Dandi March. Teachers explained the significance of the march in simple words.
Key Moments Recreated:
| Scene | Description |
|---|---|
| Gandhi Ji’s Call | A child dressed as Gandhi Ji addressed the crowd |
| The March | Children walked together holding pretend staffs |
| Making Salt | Children pretended to make salt from seawater |
| Unity | Children stood together to show unity and peaceful protest |
The role-play helped children understand the power of peaceful protest and the importance of standing up for what is right.
Other Acts from Gandhi’s Life
In addition to the Namak Satyagraha, children also enacted other important moments from Gandhi’s life.
The Charkha and Swadeshi Movement
Children learned about the Charkha (spinning wheel) and its role in the Swadeshi movement. They saw how Gandhi Ji encouraged people to make their own cloth instead of buying British goods.
The Quit India Movement
Teachers explained the Quit India Movement in simple terms. Children learned how Gandhi Ji asked the British to leave India peacefully.
Gandhi Ji’s Simple Life
Children learned about Gandhi Ji’s simple lifestyle. They discussed how he wore simple clothes, ate simple food, and lived with minimal possessions.
Craft Making Activities for Kidz
Following the role-play, children participated in craft making activities. These activities were designed to be fun and educational.
Craft Activities
| Activity | Description |
|---|---|
| Charkha Making | Children made simple spinning wheel models using paper and sticks |
| Gandhi Ji Glasses | Children made round spectacles using pipe cleaners |
| Dandi March Drawing | Children drew scenes from the Salt March |
| Salt Art | Children used salt to create textures in their artwork |
| Tricolour Craft | Children made Indian flags using coloured paper |
