Plants are an essential part of our lives — from the food we eat to the clothes we wear, they provide countless products that make daily living possible. To help children understand this connection, Udayan Kidz organized a Show & Tell activity where kids explored and presented items we get from plants.
1. Everyday Products from Plants
Children were amazed to learn how many everyday items come directly from plants:
- Food items: Fruits like apples and bananas, vegetables such as spinach and carrots, grains like rice and wheat, and nuts including almonds and cashews. These foods are the foundation of a healthy diet.
- Clothing materials: Cotton from cotton plants, jute for bags and ropes, and silk indirectly from mulberry leaves that feed silkworms. Kids realized that even their school uniforms have plant origins.
- Medicinal uses: Neem, tulsi, and aloe vera are widely used in herbal remedies. Children shared how their families use plant-based medicines at home.
- Household items: Wooden furniture, paper made from trees, cooking oils from mustard and sunflower seeds, and even spices like turmeric and cinnamon.
2. Show & Tell Highlights
The activity encouraged children to bring real-life examples:
- Some carried fruits and vegetables from home.
- Others displayed cotton clothes or jute bags.
- A few proudly showed herbal products like neem toothpaste or aloe vera gel.
- Wooden toys and paper crafts also made an appearance.
This hands-on approach made the learning interactive, helping children connect classroom knowledge with everyday life.
3. Building Awareness
Beyond fun, the activity instilled important values:
- Kids understood how deeply we depend on plants for survival.
- They learned the importance of conserving trees and protecting nature.
- Teachers emphasized eco-friendly habits like reducing paper waste and planting more trees.
By linking everyday objects to their plant origins, children developed curiosity, confidence, and a sense of responsibility toward the environment.
Conclusion
The Show & Tell: Discovering Products We Get From Plants activity was a joyful way to blend learning with creativity. At Udayan Kidz, children not only discovered the gifts of nature but also developed eco-friendly habits and a deeper appreciation for the world around them.
